LUMBERTON (WBTW) — Lumberton Police officers said two highway safety workers were hit on Interstate 95 early Thursday morning and one of them died.
According to a press release, it happened on the northbound side near Mile Marker 16.
Police found two workers with Stay Alert Safety Services–a Carolinas-based contract safety company–had been hit by a driver, and one was already dead. The other was transported to Southeastern Regional Medical center with serious injuries.
The person who hit the pair was not hurt, according to police.
The investigation continues.
