NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – North Myrtle Beach detectives worked with a confidential informant to put two people behind bars on drug trafficking and cruelty to animals charges.

An incident report from North Myrtle Beach Police details how on January 28 detectives used a confidential informant to purchase crack cocaine from the first suspect, Marcus Jermaine Burrows, 33, of North Myrtle Beach.

The informant was suited with audio and video recording equipment, given money from officers and met Marcus Burrows to

purchase the drugs, the report states.

On February 29, officers located Marcus Burrows at East Bay Deli in North Myrtle Beach and arrested him for outstanding drug distribution warrants. After Marcus Burrows’ arrest, detectives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home, located on 39th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach.

During the raid, officers seized approximately 10.1 grams of crack cocaine, 7.2 grams of marijuana, seven oxycodone tablets, 27 hydrocodone tablets, digital scales, drug packaging materials, marijuana “grinder,” three cell phones and two dogs that were in poor condition.

Officers note that the dogs appeared to be malnourished and the collar on one of the dogs was imbedded into its neck. The report goes on to say the dogs appeared to be neglected and poorly cared for. Both dogs were taken to the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety shelter and then transported to the veterinarian to be evaluated.

At the time the search warrant was executed, officers were unable to located Latesha Jouvanna Burrows, 29, also a resident of the home, in reference to outstanding drug distribution warrants related to the case. When detectives made contact over the phone with Latesha Burrows, she agreed to turn herself in to police.

Reuben Long Detention Center states Marcus Burrows is charged with manufacturing and distributing crack cocaine (2 charges), accessory before the fact to a felony (2 charges), criminal conspiracy (2 charges), possession of a scheduled I, II or III substance with intent to distribute, possession of scheduled I & II narcotics (2 charges), trafficking crack cocaine, ill treatment of animals overworking and ill treatment of animals torture.

Latesha Burrows is charged with criminal conspiracy (2 charges), manufacturing and distributing crack cocaine (2 charges), ill treatment of animals overworking, ill treatment of animals torture, trafficking crack cocaine, possession of scheduled I & II narcotics (2 charges) and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Marcus Burrows was booked into J. Reuben Long Monday at 1:42 p.m. and was released Wednesday at 12:14 a.m., according to online booking records. Latesha Burrows was booked into J. Reuben Long Thursday at 11:57 a.m. and was released less than four hours later.
