ANDREWS, SC (WBTW) – Two Andrews middle school students have been charged with assault after they agreed to meet and fight, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Public Information Officer Carrie Weaver says during a May 3 Georgetown County School Board meeting, a parent and her child, a student at Rosemary Middle School, voiced their concerns over a bullying incident that happened at the school April 27.

The incident was reported to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and deputies immediately began investigating the altercation. Weaver says investigators spoke with several students, parents and the two 13-year-old middle school girls involved in the fight. In addition, video evidence was also used to determine the fight was actually a premeditated meeting between the two students.

Witnesses told deputies that the two girls had used Snapchat to set a day, time and location for the fight. Because investigators were able to determine the fight was not a result of bullying, both girls involved in the fight were charged Monday with one count of assault and battery third degree, Weaver says.

The two students were each released to their guardians.
