MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The last leg of campaigning ahead of the South Carolina Republican Presidential Primary is proving the most critical for candidates.
Donald Trump held a rally with more than 2,000 supporters Friday at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center. People wanting to catch a glimpse of the billionaire started lining up as early as sunrise.
“He’s the man for the job because he’s honest. He’s not afraid to fight for his country and wants to make it great again,” Krystal Salone, of Horry County, said. “I’m excited and hopeful for a new beginning.”
The latest NBC/WSJ/Marist poll shows the gap closing between Trump and his closest competition – Sen. Ted Cruz. A mere 5 percent support among likely voters separates the two heading into Saturday’s primary.
Trump told his supporters Friday he’s not worried about it.
“We have such losers in this Republican party. We’ve got to go to a different system, folks, or you’re never going to have a president,” he said. “I’ll tell you that right now.”
Trump discussed several hot-topic issues fueling the 2016 election cycle, including terrorism, the U.S. economy, job growth and national security. However, he had a warning for South Carolina.
“You know, Boeing is building massive plants in China,” he claimed. “Be careful. Be careful. You have [a] beautiful plant in South Carolina. When they cut the value of their currency in two years after their plants are built and you find out you’re losing your business … It’s not going to happen if Trump is president.”
Trump traveled to Pawleys Island and Charleston to meet with voters after his stop in Myrtle Beach Friday afternoon. His campaign is scheduled to hold a primary watch party in Spartanburg on Saturday.
