Tropical Storm Bonnie weakened this morning to a tropical depression, and made landfall east of Charleston around 8:30 am with max sustained winds of 35 mph. The storm is currently moving north at 9 mph. Tropical Storm warnings have expired for the coast of South Carolina, but rough surf conditions will still be an issue.
At 8:30 am Sunday, the center of the storm was located at 32.8N, 79.8W, or about 80 miles SW of Myrtle Beach.The minimum central pressure was 1009 mb.
The storm will continue moving northward over the next few days. The forecast for the Grand Strand and Pee Dee remains the same, with scattered showers and storms and as much as 1-4″ of accumulating rain possible. Strong rip currents, rough surf and a storm surge of 1-2 feet are possible along the coast.
