MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash on Highway 31 south of Grissom Parkway.
Troopers said it happened just before 10 p.m. Monday when a 2003 Chevy pickup with a trailer was traveling north on SC 31 when it pulled over just before (south of) the Grissom Pkwy. interchange to check the trailer.
A 2007 Chevy Tahoe traveling north hit the trailer, went off the road and down the embankment, killing the driver, according to SCHP.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 68-year-old William Johnson, Jr of Cherry Grove. Willard said Johnson died at the hospital just after 11 p.m.
Three people in the truck were not hurt.
SCHP and the MAIT team is investigating to figure out exactly where the trailer was when the Tahoe hit it.
