DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating a shooting that sent three people to the hospital Saturday night.
The shooting happened in the Alphabet Hill neighborhood in Darlington County late Saturday night, according to Sheriff Wayne Byrd with the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office.
Mark Fox lives next door to where the shooting happened. He says a cook-out was being held at the home.
“It sounded like fireworks, just a surprise,” mentioned Fox.
According to Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd the shooting sent two men and one woman to the hospital.
“Because you know why it was surprising because everybody was having fun. We were having fun eating and cooking out,” said Fox.
But the fun ended quickly for the party-goers.
“Years ago we have had problems in that area with some gang issues and some drug issues,” said Sheriff Byrd.
In 2016 the Darlington County Sheriff’s responded to 21 calls in the Alphabet Hill community.
Sheriff Byrd says the calls range from traffic stops to domestic violence.
“It’s one of those things where nobody says anything, nobody knows anything and they’re not willing to talk to law enforcement about it which makes it hard to really do anything with the case,” said Byrd.
“Those people didn’t deserve that, nobody did,” said Fox.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Department and the Darlington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
