Sunny days may have you thinking about the summer travel season. And now is the time to prepare if you really want to save. Whether you’re booking a flight or hitting the roads, here is some lesser known cost cutting advice.
FLYING:
CheapAir.com analyzed 5 million trips and found you can save an average of $200 if you buy 47 days before your departure date.
Now, there is such a thing as booking too early. CheapAir says that when a ticket is first offered it’s priced at about $50 above the lowest point.
Flyer Yahmina Brown also slashed her ticket cost $210 by booking into Greenville and driving to her final destination in Tennessee.
And then there’s world traveler Kayla Huovinen’s technique. She says when round trips get too pricey, search for one ways on different airlines.
“I don’t just go with one airline, and I usually do that because it ends up being about $100 cheaper.”
ROAD TRIP:
Now, if you’re traveling on the road, you know to check the pressure in your tires to maximize mileage.
But you may not realize, certain apps can really help you save.
GasBuddy pinpoints the cheapest fill-up.
And Parkme sends you to the cheapest parking.
HOTELS:
Save on lodging by including airport hotels in your comparison shopping.
Also, check with any hotel website before booking on a third party site.
And ask for discounts or add-ons like free breakfast.
Whichever way you travel, pack light, like Houvinen.
“I traveled to Israel and Italy this past summer with just this.”
You’ll save on baggage fees, or better gas mileage.
