ATLANTA (AP) – Authors of several health studies dealing with the effects of exposure to contaminated drinking water at Camp Lejeune are scheduled to take questions from the public at a meeting in Greensboro.
The public meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Embassy Suites Greensboro-Airport. It’s sponsored by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.
ATSDR has published several studies describing the extent of the drinking water contamination at Camp Lejeune. These studies have linked exposures to the drinking water with a number of diseases and health conditions, including multiple cancers, preterm births, and neural tube defects.
Another meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
Wells at Camp Lejeune were contaminated by fuel leaks and other sources of pollution, in some cases for decades, before tests alerted officials to the problem.
