FLORENCE, SC – AAA says nearly 42 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this independence day.
That’s the most since at least 2007.
South Carolina may see even a bigger increase than the national average, due to an improving economy and, by far, the lowest gas prices in the nation.
With many people hitting the roads in the Pee Dee this weekend will be a busy weekend for towing companies.
“You never know what you are going to get until you get there. Most definitely got to love it to do it,” mentioned Timmy Flowers, tow truck drivers for Miller’s Automotive and Towing in Florence.
Next to Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July weekend is the busiest holiday for Miller’s Automotive and Towing.
A record of over 614,700 South Carolinians will travel.
“We get a lot of highway patrol calls and wrecks,” explained Flowers.
The National Safety Council says on average, there are 37 percent more highway fatalities on Independence Day weekend.
“It’s a real dangerous job and a lot of people don’t see it like that. We have families that we want to make it home to at night as well,” Flowers stated.
“Tomorrow and throughout the weekend…it’s going to be pretty rough,” he added.
Miller’s Automotive and Towing says they will be operating their towing services all weekend.
