TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Timmonsville Police Chief Gregory Palmer has been suspended, pending termination town officials said Friday.
Timmonsville Town Administrator Mary Bines says Palmer’s termination must be approved by town council and that council will meet at the regularly scheduled time Tuesday night. Bines says Palmer’s issued weapon and patrol vehicle have been confiscated by the town.
Chief Palmer accepted the position as Police Chief in April 2014 and was assigned the task of rebuilding the police department from scratch including repairing vehicles, replacing equipment and working with a small budget to hire and train officers.
“It’s not just as easy as most people think it is, as coming in and turning on the lights and saying ‘I’m the police now’…there’s a lot of things that we have to go through, a lot of training that we have to go through to get the department back in compliance with SLED and what’s required of us as a law enforcement agency to be able to do our jobs,” Palmer said in June 2014.
