The Horry County Board of Education approved new principals for three schools for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Lee James will be the new principal of Conway Middle School. He has been an assistant principal at Green Sea Floyds High School since 2011 in the District’s only high school that serves grades 6-12.  James taught middle and high school math for eight years, at both Loris Middle School and Greenwood High School in Greenwood. He also coordinated summer school programs for eight years. James earned a Master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor’s degree in science from Lander University. Conway Middle School’s former principal, Margaret Sordian, transferred to work in Federal Programs at the District Office. Marjorie McIver, a retired HCS middle school administrator, is serving as the school’s interim principal.

Anna Carroll will be the new principal of Waccamaw Elementary School upon the retirement of Barbara Ammons at the end of the academic year. Carroll has been the assistant principal at Aynor Elementary School for four years and served as the school’s instructional coach for five years.  She has six years of classroom experience, as both a six-grade and special education teacher. Carroll earned a Master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Coastal Carolina University.

Kristin Dowling will be the new principal at Seaside Elementary School upon the retirement of Beth Selander at the end of the school year. Kristin has been an assistant principal at River Oaks Elementary School for one year and was previously an assistant principal and instructional coach at Lakewood Elementary School and an instructional coach at North Myrtle Beach Elementary. Dowling has 10 years of classroom experience teaching fifth grade at Burgess Elementary School and Myrtle Beach Intermediate School and sixth grade at Crayton Middle School in Richland I. Dowling earned a Master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Phoenix, a Master’s degree in the art of teaching from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of South Carolina.

All newly-appointed principals will transition to their new positions on July 1.
