Three local athletes sign

Three athletes from the Grand Strand and Pee Dee signed to continue their athletic careers in college on Wednesday.

Carolina Forest’s Matthew Micallef signed to play football at Methodist University. He played center for the Panthers and received All-Region offensive line honors.

“I’m really excited. I’ve been dreaming about it since I was younger and it’s finally coming true. I’m just ready to go put in the work there and have my four years,” Micallef said.

Darlington High School’s Anthony Fullard also signed. He will continue his wrestling career at Allen University. During his career at Darlington, Fullard racked up more than 100 wins.

“I’m very excited to finally know that I have a chance to play a collegiate sport and really excited to know that all my effort and hard work has finally paid off the last of the season and this school year,” Fullard said.

Johnsonville’s Cayley Gunter also signed. She will play volleyball at Coker College. Gunter played a big role in leading the Flashes to a region title. She was also the team captain, and was named the MVP of the North vs. South game.
