DILLON, SC (WBTW) – Bands from across South Carolina and across the southeast took the field at Dillon Memorial Stadium in a showdown for the twelfth annual “Battle of the Bands”.

Nearly seven thousand people came out to watch 26 high school bands including from schools in Virginia and Georgia.

Besides bragging rights the top bands took home trophies.

School officials say the most important thing about the event is supporting the music community and having fun.

Those who helped host it say today is the first step toward giving high school bands and students a chance to shine.

“Over the years it started out small, every year it gets bigger. We have to turn our bands because we have so many. Then we always have college bands come in for recruitment purposes for their marching bands,” said Assistant Band Director Kevin Mclelland.

Dillon Memorial Stadium has been the home of the event for the past 12 years.

Each year it brings together alumni as well as people from across the Pee Dee and Grand Stand.
