FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Thousands made their way to SIMT in Florence–many in costume–for this year’s Florence Comic Con.
They came in all shapes and sizes. Villains and heroes, and all-girl superhero rock band, even a whole family dressed as Batman. And of course, lots and lots of comics.
“The whole city of Florence supports it.”
Florence Comic Con organizer Denny Stevenson–also owner of Legends Comics–enjoys coming together with Fellow comic book lovers here.
“We get a bunch of people from Myrtle Beach, Columbia, Wilmington, and Charlotte,” Stevenson explained.
There was a costume contest and hundreds of vendors, including authors and artists showing off their hard work.
Florence resident Daniel McWilliams and his business partners Justin and Tajh are using Comic Con to debut their party game “BRKTS” (pronounced “brackets”), which combines debate with comic book and other characters.
“Two characters you really care about doing ridiculous things like jello wrestling or thumb war…who does that?” McWilliams said. “It’s something I do all the time with my friends and I wanted to formalize that.”
While this year’s event is now over, Stevenson called it a success.
Our goal would be a two day event with 1,000 people,” he said. “That brings a lot of money and people to Florence, but this year has been a big success.”
