PELION, S.C. (AP) – Authorities in South Carolina say a thief made off with more than $17,000 in property from a high school, including an $8,000 all-terrain vehicle, a $3,000 cello and several power tools.
News outlets report Pelion High School’s resource officer responded to a call Monday that someone illegally entered the building overnight. A Lexington County Sheriff’s Department report shows dozens of items were missing, from pricey musical instruments to saws, drills and maintenance vehicles. District spokeswoman Mary Beth Hill said the school’s band also lost guitars and drums, just days before it’s set to compete in a competition.
Sheriff’s department spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick says officers recovered some items that were dropped and broken in the school hallway and others on the side of nearby roads.
Authorities are investigating.
