The Skirmish at Gamble’s Hotel Reenactment is this weekend in Florence

FLORENCE, SC – The Skirmish at Gamble’s Hotel Reenactment will be held  this weekend at The Columns Plantation in Florence.   The camps open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12, 2017. Tickets will be $10 for adults, $5 for students younger than 18, and children younger than 12 are free with an adult. Battles are held at 2pm each day, and church will be held at the barn for the public at 11am on Sunday.

The event is hosted by the 23rd SC Infantry, the Florence county division of the Palmetto Battalion. Proceeds go toward historical preservation such as the 23rd History Scholarship for a rising senior at Francis Marion University, the Florence Museum of Art, Science and History, the SC Confederate Relic Room & Military Museum at the SC State Museum, and other worthy projects.

The Skirmish at Gamble’s Hotel depicts an encounter that occurred on March 5, 1865, when 500 Federal soldiers marched into the Florence area to destroy the railroad depot. They were met by Confederate soldiers and 400 area home guards.
