According to Tom Fox, foundation president, “The Foundation is fortunate to have community support through donations at our annual charity golf tournament that provide educational opportunities and resources to the communities we serve. The Foundation board of directors and Sheriff’s Office staff thank everyone for their continued support of this very valuable program.” The Foundation awards up to eight scholarships each year, independent of the scholarships awarded through endowments created at Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College.
The 2015 recipients will be recognized at the Foundation Golf Tournament Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Legends Golf Course and presented their $1,000 scholarship by Sheriff Phillip Thompson. “It is my belief that we are only as strong as the support we develop today and that our future is only as bright as the light we give now for others to follow tomorrow. That is why I am most proud of the Horry County Sheriff’s Foundation Scholarship Program” says Sheriff Thompson. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $70,000 in endowments to Coastal Carolina University and Horry Georgetown Technical College and individual scholarships to high school seniors seeking an undergraduate degree at a university or college in the field of criminal justice or legal related studies.
