The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach today announced that it will play host to The Victorian Kookaburras baseball team from Melbourne, Australia. The 16U team will travel to Myrtle Beach to participate in the annual Ocean Breeze summer tournament from July 12-17, 2015. The Kookaburras are the 4th team to travel to the United States to participate in a week-long tournament at The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach.
“Australian teams have participated in our tournaments for the past four summer seasons,” said Bobby Holland, General Manager of The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach. “This serves as a great opportunity for the domestic teams present that week to face international competition. The Australian teams typically display unprecedented sportsmanship during the tournament, as The Kookaburras are the epitome of what travel baseball and good sportsmanship is all about.”
The Victorian Kookaburras touring team, which includes players from the city of Melbourne and the regional town of Mildura, will travel over 30 hours from the State of Victoria in Australia to reach Myrtle Beach. The tour is focused around baseball participation, friendship and cultural exploration for the players and families traveling with the team. The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach is also seeking assistance from the local community, as it is currently searching for “host families” to help accommodate the players and serve as “ambassadors” for Myrtle Beach during their trip.
“Our team is excited for the opportunity to play baseball in the United States of America, as we have been training for several months,” said Team Executive Officer for the Victorian Kookaburras Myles Foreman. “The players are particularly looking forward to staying with host families and the opportunity to experience American culture. This aspect of the tour is always a highlight for the players and we are very grateful to the families who share their homes.”
