MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) Each spring, the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Museum’s Tour of Homes offers a look at some of the most glamorous and uniquely decorated homes in the Myrtle Beach area, while serving as the Museum’s major fundraiser. The 16th Annual Spring Tour of Homes is scheduled for Saturday, March 12, 2016.
List of 2016 Homes
The Barker Home – 5719 N. Ocean Blvd.
“By the sea, by the beautiful sea”: this spacious (nearly 4,000-square-foot) ocean front home has views from every one of its three levels, particularly from the two upper-level decks. Interior furnishings echo the seaside theme in even the smallest details: from lamps and table legs in the shape of sea horses or clamshells, artwork and throw pillows adorned with all manner of sea creatures – including a gold-sequined lobster. And for the serious beach-goer, this own even has its own beach-front cabana.
The Battleson Home – 5716 Porcher Drive
It’s Dubbed ‘Fablehaven’ by its owners, this cozy home feels like a fairy-tale cottage by the sea. While keeping the rich-toned heart pine and cypress paneling and beams from the 1940 original, the owners stretched and re-purposed its spaces to suit their modern lifestyles. Check the bi-level office and library tucked into a former breezeway between main house and servants’ annex; the hand-carved wainscoting and quirky parrot wallpaper in the pocket-sized dining room ; or the former retail-store-window turned etagere between kitchen and office that now displays the owners’ antique glassware collection.
The Castellano Home – 5909 Country Club Drive, Pine Lakes
Let there be light – and a view to die for. This brand-new contemporary home is bright and airy inside with sweeping lake and golf course views from its many floor to ceiling windows, some reaching the home’s full 13 foot ceiling height. Plenty spacious with four bedrooms and four baths, there’s also a roomy bonus suite over the three-car garage. Don’t miss the roomy walk-in shower – no shower doors to clean! – and soaking tub in the master bathroom.
The Jordan Home – 8070 Verona Drive, Castillo del Mar
This 4,000 square foot Mediterranean-style home looks traditional from the outside but is full of surprises inside, from its rich color scheme – plum, royal blue, gold and gray – to the edgy artworks and furnishings that add spice to every room. Check out the dramatic deep plum arched niches, adorned with antique brass candelabra, that bracket the faux-carved-stone fireplace (complete with lion heads) in the living room. Don’t miss the office/study with its striking turquoise-beaded chandelier, faux-glazed tin ceiling and custom built stools (each with 140 nailheads); or the guest bedroom with eye-popping fuschia painted ceiling and mirrored cube-shaped chandelier.
The McKenzie Home – 1531 Genoa Court, Grande Dunes
This opulently decorated Grande Dunes home could give Versailles a run for its money. Its 4,000 square feet are filled with luxurious furnishings and objets d’art wherever the eye can see. But sprinkled among the owner’s extensive collection of blue-and white porcelain and framed Oriental plates and numerous portraits of dogs. Check out the master bedroom with oversized planter’s bed, painted with a blend of gold and silver. And you can’t miss the “mini-master’ suite: approaching form the main hall, you’ll swear you’re entering Marie Antoinette’s boudoir.
The Tozzoli Home – 8085 Verona Drive, Castillo del Mar
This elegant, 5,500 square foot Mediterranean is chock-full of eye-popping architectural details as well as a treasure trove of precious collectibles. But don’t forget to look up, as even the ceilings are works of art: like the living room ceiling with hand-painted medallions and Swarovsky crystals, or the hammered-tin ceiling medallion in the dining room. Don’t miss the luxurious master bath with its full-body shower big enough for (at least) two; and the lush patio and pool – with waterfall.
The Warren Home – 4800 Camellia Drive
This If a home could be called “Zen,” this is the one. Its spare, Asian-influenced lines are deceptively simple (and belie its 4,200 spare foot size), but look closely at the details like the stainless steel sculpture over the living room fireplace; the ceiling fans that suggest airplane propellers; the eye popping mural in the stairwell; the quartz kitchen counters, or the dining table that looks as if it was carved from a single giant redwood. Don’t miss the outdoor patio with its brilliant cobalt-blue, free-form pool and teak deck, as well as a huge rooftop sun deck.
The Luncheon Buffet
In addition to a feast for the eyes, the day also offers a feast for the taste buds with a luncheon buffet – served along with a beautiful golf course view – at Pine Lakes Country Club.
