MYRTLE BEACH, SC – On Wednesday evening, February 17th at 7:30 PM at the Myrtle Beach High School Music and Arts Center, the Long Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra will present the second concert of its three-concert series, a varied program of music “Inspired by the Dance”, including the Overture to Die Fledermaus (The Bat) by the Waltz King, Johann Strauss; Astor Piazzolla’s tango, Verano Porteño (Spring in Buenos Aires); two dances from the folk opera The Bartered Bride by Czech composer Bedrich Smetana; William Walton’s noble Crown Imperial March, composed for the coronation of King George VI in 1937; and Concerto Grosso by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Featured soloist will be Kevin Rogers, LBS Youth Orchestra alumnus who is currently violinist with the Friction String Quartet based in San Francisco. He will perform two short, dance-inspired showpieces with the orchestra: Camille Saint-Saëns’ Havanaise (Habanera) and Introduction & Tarantella by Pablo de Sarasate.
