ROUND ROCK, TX — Police are searching for two suspects after Sgt. Craig Hutchinson was killed in a shooting at his house early Monday morning.

Austin police tweeted the sergeant’s body is being transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office closing portions of I-35. The Travis County Sheriff’s Department confirms one of the department’s sergeants was shot in Round Rock before 1:30 a.m.

The sergeant was shot at his house on Oak Meadow Drive in the Cimmaron neighborhood, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. DPS troopers are assisting in the search for two suspects in the shooting.

Round Rock Police tell KXAN News they are asking people in the neighborhood to stay inside their homes. There is a large police presence off of McNeil Road near the intersection of SH 45 and MoPac. A SWAT team, Pflugerville police and an Air One helicopter are assisting with the search for the suspects.

Hutchinson is known for cracking multiple burglary cases across his career with the department.
