Teenager found dead along street in Fairmont early Tuesday

FAIRMONT, NC (WBTW) – Someone found a 16-year-old boy dead on the side of a street in Fairmont early Tuesday morning, according to Capt. John Edwards with the town’s police department.

Edwards said someone walking on Manilla St. around 1:25 a.m. found the boy’s body along the edge of the road in the Robeson County town. Police arrived a short time later and officers quickly realized the boy was not alive, Edwards said.

The police department is not releasing any details about signs of death. Edwards said an autopsy to determine cause of death would likely be performed Wednesday.

Investigators are questioning people who knew the boy to figure out what may have led to his death, Edwards said.

Anyone who can help police in their investigation is asked to call the Fairmont Police Department (910-628-9766) or Capt. Edwards directly (910-318-8888).
