CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – A Conway teen is now charged as an adult in connection with a 2014 robbery and shooting of a clerk at an area gas station.

According to J Reuben Long Detention Center records, Zachariah Tobias Bessent, 17, is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, and kidnapping for his alleged involvement in the August 24th incident at the Carolina Petro on SC 544.

Horry County Police arrested three juveniles in connection with the shooting ages 16, 15 and 13.

They were reportedly picked up the day after the shooting at a neighborhood near the gas station on Stoney Brooke Drive.

HCPD says three men walked into the Carolina Petro gas station, off of Highway 544 and West Cox Ferry Road, shot the clerk, took some items, and then ran from the scene. Police later revealed that the victim was shot in the back while he was lying down on the pavement.

In a police report, the victim said that the suspects “told him to lay on the ground and then one of the males told another to shoot him and that’s when he heard a gunshot and felt pain in his back.”

Bessent is currently being held without bond.
