Teen arrested after Lumberton man’s body found in bean field

LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office says the body of a 23-year-old Lumberton man was found in a bean field on Terry Drive off of Holly Swamp Road early Tuesday morning.

Major Anthony Thompson confirms the office is investigating the death of Rogers Oneal Robinson as a murder. Robinson’s body was found when the murder suspect directed Sgt. Damien Mclean to the location of the body, adds Major Thompson.

The suspect, 17-year-old Joseph Noah Cummings, is responsible for the shooting death of Robinson and putting him in the bean field, says Major Thompson. Officials say an argument between the two men resulted in Cummings shooting Robinson. Robinson’s vehicle was taken by Cummings and was later stopped by deputies on Red Bank Road after officials received a tip of the suspected killer’s location.

Cummings, of Red Springs, has been charged with first degree murder and robbery with dangerous weapon. He is incarcerated in the Robeson County Detention Center with no bond, states Major Thompson.
