Teacher to parents: No homework, more family time for students

NORTH TEXAS  — A Dallas-area teacher has a new policy on homework assignments that’s getting some attention online.

According to NBCDFW.com, second-grade teacher Brandy Young at Godley Elementary School sent a letter home to parents, explaining why their children will not have any homework assignments this year.

“Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance,” Young explains in the letter. “Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.”
