TIMMONSVILLE, S.C. (WBTW)- Whitney Dungee is the teacher of the year for Florence school district four. Ms. Dungee has been teaching for four years and she spent all four years at Brockington Elementary in Timmonsville.
She originally didn’t want to be a teacher but when she was in her “teaching cadet” program at Conway high school, she had the chance to work with kindergartners. She says they are the ones who inspired her to teach.
Ms. Dungee says she loves where she works because the children in Timmonsville need good role models and she says teaching them about life outside the classroom is just as important as what’s in the books.
“I want them to learn how to be good citizens. I want them to take everything they learn, not just academic wise but emotional and social skills and take that them.”
