ORANGEBURG, SC (AP) — A Swedish automotive supplier has cut the ribbon on its plant in South Carolina’s Orangeburg County.

It is Gnotec’s first North American plant.

The Times and Democrat reports the celebration Friday was at the 30,000-square-foot production facility in the Carolina Regional Park, off U.S. 601 near Interstate 26.

Gnotec Group is going to invest $5.9 million and create 78 new jobs over the next five years at the plant. The company plans to use the facility initially for warehousing and then manufacturing focused on welding and product assembly.

Gnotec General Manager Johan Westerberg says the company will receive bulk material from Europe and then customize the parts for automobiles. He says Volvo is one of the main customers.

Gnotec also has plants in Sweden, Germany, Slovakia and China.
