A Pamplico man is back in Florence to face charges in the October murder of Ellie Becoat, III.

Zafir Abdul Bethea, 22, of Harden Road in Pamplico, has been returned to Florence to face charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The shooting occurred on October 1 on Main Street in Pamplico, the Florence County Sheriff’s Office says. According to investigators, Bethea is accused of shooting Becoat.

Bethea was taken into custody on October 5 by members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and the FBI in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Florence County Solicitor Ed Clements said Bethea was out of jail on a $125,000 bond for the 2015 murder of Terrell Smith when he allegedly killed Becoat. According to court documents, Bethea was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number on May 20, 2015. He was later indicted in March 2016 for attempted armed robbery.

Bethea was expected in court Thursday for an explanation of his charges by a Florence County Magistrate.
