SOCASTEE, SC (WBTW) – Socastee High School notified parents Wednesday morning about a break in at the school around 3:30 a.m.
A post on the school’s Facebook page states an adult male got in after he broke a window. The alarm sounded and police arrived and arrested the suspect. According to the post, they believe the suspect was trying to steal money from the school’s vending machines, which were damaged.
A police report from the Horry County Police Department states the suspect shattered the front glass to the school and there was a blood trail from the broken window inside the school. Police also say a drivers ed vehicle was found with smashed windows in the front parking lot.
Horry County police identified the man as Anthony John Minerva, according to Mikayla Moskov, with HCPD. Minerva is charged with second degree burglary and breaking into motor vehicle, tanks, pumps, where fuel, lubricants stored.
Minerva, 30, was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday and remains in the center, according to booking records. No bail has been set.
School officials say Minerva had no affiliation with the school or students.
Extra officers were on campus Wednesday morning out of an abundance of caution.
