Suspect in Palmetto Pointe shooting surrenders to police

SOCASTEE, SC (WBTW) – According to Horry County police, Tyrone James surrendered to officials and was taken into custody Wednesday.

Warrants from Horry County police say James is accused of two counts attempted murder, discharging firearms into a dwelling, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Horry County Police Department and the Horry County Fire Department were called to a reported shooting at the Palmetto Pointe Apartments in Myrtle Beach Sunday evening.

News13 was on scene at Saint Ives Road when officers arrived around 9 p.m. at the apartment complex, which is located just off of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard in the Socastee area of Horry County. The News13 crew on the scene observed two injured people being taken out on stretchers from the apartment building.

According to a press release, officers found a 42-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were shot during a domestic dispute. Both were transported immediately for medical treatment. Their condition is not known; however, they are expected to recover from their injuries.

Detectives were looking for Tyrone Edward James, 39 years old, of Myrtle Beach, in connection with this incident earlier this week.

James was arrested just three weeks ago on Oct. 9 for domestic violence 3rd degree. He spent 12 hours in jail and was released on a $2,125 bond, according to J. Reuben Long online booking records.

A resident of the building where the shooting happened explained to News13 that she was inside her apartment when at least one bullet came through her bathroom wall. She was not injured during the shooting.
