Suspect fires rifle at deputies during major drug bust in Florence Co.

Two men are facing charges, one of them for attempted murder, after a substantial drug bust in Florence County.

One of the suspects fired a shot at deputies from a rifle during the search of the home, according to investigators. No deputies were hit and not one returned fire.

Frank O’Bryon Toney, 34, of Lynchburg, has been charged with 2 counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. He also is facing drug charges.

Narcotics investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office search a home on Friday morning at 915 Alligator Road, Effingham. A sizable quantity of narcotics was seized.

According to Investigators, the search warrant yielded heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and other narcotics.  In addition, two rifles, two handguns and an undetermined amount of US currency were recovered.

In addition to Toney, Nashawn Williams, 27, of Lynchburg was taken into custody and will face charges related to this incident. 

Both mean are being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing. 

FCSO Special Operations Division Special Response Team assisted in the service of the search warrant.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are possible.
