A man has been charged after firing shots into an occupied vehicle in Effingham. 

A press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office says 44-year-old Kevin Robert Demont Washington, of Florence, was arrested on Wednesday. He is charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is expected to appear for a bond hearing on Thursday. 

According to the release, investigators with the FCSO and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested Washington in the Lamar area without incident.. Investigators say on or about June 27, Washington “discharged a firearm multiple times” into an occupied vehicle near Ballpark Road in Effingham. Investigators also say Washington had a prior altercation with the victim, who was not injured during the shooting.
