A man has been arrested for a deadly hit and run.
Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the SC Highway Patrol, confirms 48-year-old Nicholas Xanthos has been arrested for the hit and run.
J. Reuben Long Detention Center booking records show Xanthos was booked around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. He is charged with reckless homicide where death results within one year caused by injury from vehicle and hit and run/duties of driver involved in accident with death or personal injury. Xanthos remains in the center and no bail has been set.
The crash happened around 2:20 a.m. on June 24 on Highway 17 Bypass near Deerfield Links Drive in Myrtle Beach, Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden says. Rikkel Collins, 38, of Surfside Beach, died from injuries she sustained after being hit by a vehicle. The crash was not immediately reported and Collins’ body was discovered by police officers on the morning of June 25.
