An 18-year-old was charged Tuesday in an armed robbery that happened last week in Myrtle Beach, Horry County Police said.
Anthony James Ferrari of Surfside Beach was involved in the armed robbery of a Kangaroo convenience store in the early morning hours last Monday, police said.
The incident happened around 1:30 am at the store at 2591 Glenns Bay Road, Myrtle Beach.
The prelude to the robbery was so frightening to the store clerk she became nervous and began putting cash register money into a safe in moments leading up to the armed robbery, Horry Police said in a report.
The robbery began after Ferrari was in the store for a short time and then went out of the store just as a customer, who Ferrari already knew, came in, according to arrest warrants and a police report.
Ferrari and the other customer said “hello” to each other and shook hands, the store clerk told police.
After Ferrari exited the store, he “used his cell phone to call the customer so they could get high together one day,” the warrant said.
Ferrari then re-entered the store, put on a mask and the robbery happened, according to the warrant and police report.
“The clerk reported that a white male, about 18 years of age, pointed a gun and demanded money. The robber made off with an undetermined amount of money and several packs of cigarettes,” said Lt. Raul Denis of the Horry County Police.
The robber was described as wearing a black and gray-stripped Ocean Pacific hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, gloves, dark pants, and a face mask, Denis added.
On Tuesday, Horry County Police Detectives charged Ferrari with Armed Robbery and Trespassing After Warning.
Ferrari is currently detained at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
