Sumter woman pleads guilty after Horry County police chase

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW)- A Sumter woman pleaded guilty in connection with a shoplifting and police chase last fall.

Assistant Solicitor D. Tyler Bratton says 26-year-old Laquandra Borden pleaded guilty on Wednesday to criminal conspiracy, first-degree assault and battery, shoplifting enhancement third or greater, and hit and run.

Judge Thomas Cooper sentenced Borden to seven years in prison.

In November 2015, Horry County Police Officers approached Borden outside a Walmart in Surfside Beach on the suspicion of shoplifting. Officers say she drove away, and nearly hit the officers.

Officers took her into custody in Myrtle Beach after a chase.

According to the SC Department of Corrections Website, Borden’s been in Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution since April. She’s serving a sentence there for a conviction in Sumter County.
