MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)-Its only June and already we’ve heard stories of children being left in hot cars. last week in York county, police arrested a mother they say left her three children in a hot car for more than forty-five minutes. Several children died last year right here in South Carolina, unattended in a hot car.

According to a child’s protection agency called kidsandcars.org, 38 children in the U.S.die each year after being left inside hot vehicles or climbing in them without parents knowing.

Kidsandcars.org  have a few recommendations to help you remember to check the back seat:

Put something you’ll need like your cell phone, handbag, employee I.D. or brief case, on the floor board in the back seat.

Keep a large stuffed animal in the child’s car seat when it’s not occupied.

When the child is placed in the seat, put the stuffed animal in the front passenger seat. It’s a visual reminder that anytime the stuffed animal is up front you know the child is in the back seat in a child safety seat.

Keep vehicles locked at all times; even in the garage or driveway just to make sure there’s no way for a child to be trapped.

News13 spoke with lieutenant Joey Crosby with the Myrtle Beach police department and he says no matter how silly some of those reminders sound, hey work and can be life-saving. He also added if you see a child in a car unattended, no matter if it’s during the heat of the summer or the winter to call 911 immediately.
