MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – An occasional glass of wine may help reduce the number of sick days you take from work, according to a recent study. The European study concluded that moderate drinkers are less likely to miss work than those who don’t drink at all, or heavy drinkers.
Researchers from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health wanted to determine which group takes the most sick days, so they surveyed more than 47,000 people. The questionnaire asked participants about their alcohol consumption as well as the number of sick days taken from work over the past four to seven years.
The study concluded that teetotalers and heavy drinkers were more likely to take a “sickness absence” from work than those who drank moderately – in this case, one to five glasses of wine a week or one to six beers.
Scientists note that there is room for error in the report as the study was conducted in Europe and other cultures may have different drinking habits. In addition, the data was self-reported, which naturally leaves room for inaccuracy.
