LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW)  – A student at Lake City High School has been arrested Tuesday after weapons were found in a car outside the high school.

Major Mike Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office says there is no threat to the school, but one student has been arrested after at least one gun, identified as a hunting firearm, was found in a car outside.

Florence School District Three spokesperson Brian Huckabee says the 16-year-old student was arrested after weapons were found in his car. Huckabee couldn’t release how many weapons or what kind of weapons the student was found with.

Huckabee also confirms the school was put on lockdown as a precaution, but no weapons were found inside the school.

The spokesperson explains that law enforcement was called to investigate after reports that a student had a weapon and fired a shot out of a car window in the parking lot. Huckabee says a video being shared on social media shows the student pointing and firing a bb gun in the parking lot.

School officials stress that no one was injured.

The sheriff’s office has not yet released the name or charges for the student arrested for having a weapon on school grounds.
