Crews were called to the area of Broadridge Road and Collins Road around 6:49 p.m. on Monday, according to Trooper R.D. Wright, with the NC Highway Patrol. The driver of a tractor-trailer reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a 2004 Chevrolet pick-up truck.
The tractor-trailer was reportedly hauling an empty log trailer and the driver was identified as Andrew Blake Oxendine, 21. Oxendine was not hurt.
Stephanie Nicole Smith, 34, was in the pick-up truck and died at the scene.
Daniel Alexander Jones, 27, was identified as the pick-up truck driver. He was ejected during the crash.
Three children in the truck were critically injured and transported to area hospitals. Two children were flown to McLeod Hospital in Florence and one was flown to Grand Strand Medical Center.
Two of the three children were ejected from the pick-up truck during the crash, Wright also said. After impact, the tractor-trailer hit a pole and caught fire.
Charges are pending against Oxendine.
