PEMBROKE, NC (WBTW) – A woman is in jail after reportedly driving while impaired and running over a child in Pembroke Tuesday afternoon.
According to North Carolina Trooper Jonathan Scott, troopers were called to the parking lot of a tobacco shop on Prospect Road in Pembroke at 3:26 p.m. Tuesday after a 4-year-old was struck by a car. The driver, 55-year-old Nancy Ransom, was charged with DWI and felony death by motor vehicle.
Scott says the child was knelt down in front of the car and Ransom hit the child traveling five miles per hour. News13 asked why the child was knelt in front of the car and if a parent or guardian was nearby, but Scott could not give specifics, only saying the incident is still under investigation.
Timothy Lynn Sampson, 4, of Pembroke died at the scene, Scott confirms.
Ransom is currently in custody at the Robeson County Detention Center.
