A Waynesville woman welcomed home her long lost granddaughter Thursday night. Their emotional meeting ended a decades-long search for one another across borders and oceans.
Canadian Nikita Volkova connected with her German grandmother, Lydia Cook, through a DNA testing service.
Cook, who lives in Waynesville, says she has been searching for her daughter for decades, who passed away before they were able to reconnect.
Volkova also never met her mother, so the union was a life changing moment for both women.
Nikita is spending the next two weeks in Waynesville with her new family.
They have a Go Fund Me account to hire a lawyer so she can try to get her US citizenship.
