A woman has been arrested and charged with shooting and killing six puppies in Augusta County.
Betty G. Hemp, 39, of Middlebrook, was arrested Thursday and charged with six felony counts of animal cruelty and six misdemeanor counts of illegal dumping. She was processed and later released on bond.
Authorities were called to the 200 block of Troxel Gap Rd. Saturday following reports that six dogs — between four to six months of age — were found deceased and discarded over a steep embankment, according to police.
All suffered from apparent gunshot wounds.
Investigators did not specify why or what led to Hemp shooting the dogs.
