Victims in Mt. Pleasant quadruple homicide beaten to death, deputies say

CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – Charleston County deputies responded to a disturbance call inside a Mt. Pleasant home just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday morning and discovered multiple people had been killed.

Deputies responded to 2751 Atlanta Drive, where they discovered the bodies of Joseph Manigault, 72, Rose Manigault, 69, Kenya Manigault, 42, Faith Manigault, 15, all from Mt. Pleasant and Faith Manigault was also a student at Wando High School.

Lovequawn Matthew Shaire Scott, 22, is charged with four counts of murder.

The following is a statement from Dr. Sherry Eppelsheimer, Principal at Wando High School:

I cannot begin to try to explain how hard this is for all of us to comprehend. A precious soul and wonderful person is no longer with us. We were so fortunate to have Faith Manigault as part of our school community, and now we are struggling with the fact that we will not see her in our hallways and classrooms, or on the basketball court, anymore.

Of course, we are not only grieving the loss of Faith, but also the loss of her family, who also meant so much to us.

We ask that you respect the privacy of those who loved and knew Faith and her family, and respect the privacy of the Wando community during this difficult time.

Starting tomorrow, our school will have extra personnel in place, including members of the District’s Crisis Team, to help students and staff try to process this horrible situation.

When authorities arrived, they saw a deceased man and woman in the garage of the home. Deputies say they entered the home and found two more women, who also appeared to be dead, inside a bedroom of the home.

Deputies detained Scott, who was at the home when officials arrived. Deputies say Scott had blood on his clothes and an injury to his hand.

While the cause of death is pending autopsy results, it is believed the four victims were killed from blunt force trauma. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Officials have not released a motive in the quadruple homicide.
