A group of local veterans is teaming up with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR)  and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to cleanup local waterways.

Volunteers with Wounded Nature Working Veterans will clean debris from Drum Island on Saturday, March 17th. In addition to cleaning up trash found in the water, the group focuses on collecting treated wood and tires which emit chemicals harmful to marine-life.

You do not need to be a veteran to participate. Anyone who wants to volunteer can register here, and show up at Remley’s Point in Mt. Pleasant by 12:30 PM.

The group will take a water taxi to Drum Island and return by 4 PM. Volunteers are encouraged to wear old tennis shoes.
