COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW/CNN) – A cause of death has been released for a slain University of South Carolina student.
“On behalf of the Clarendon County Coroner, Bucky Mock, SLED is releasing the cause of death for Samantha L. Josephson, 21, of Robbinsville, New Jersey,” a press release from SLED said. “An autopsy indicated the cause of death was due to multiple sharp force injuries.”
The City of Columbia Police Department, Clarendon County Sheriff’s Office, and SLED continue to investigate.
Nathaniel David Rowland, the accused killer of a University of South Carolina student, didn’t show up in court Sunday, but that didn’t stop the victim’s mother from ripping into him in a statement to the judge.
“It sickens us to think that his face was the last thing that my baby girl saw on this earth. Does he even know her name?” Marci Josephson said in court, according to CNN affiliate WIS-TV.
Josephson was found dead in a field Friday afternoon about 14 hours after getting into a vehicle she mistakenly thought was her Uber, said police in Columbia, South Carolina. After Rowland’s arrest, police found Josephson’s blood and her cellphone in his vehicle, police said.
A vigil honoring Josephson was held on USC’s campus Sunday night.
According to a background check from SLED, Rowland was previously arrested on October 23, 2018 in Richland County. He was charged with obtaining a signature under false pretense greater than $1,000 but less than $5,000.
