Troopers identify woman who died in crash with Craven County school bus

A New Bern woman was killed Wednesday afternoon after her car was hit by a Craven County school bus.

Deanna Edwards, 45, died in the crash, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

It happened at Spring Garden Road near the intersection with West Craven Middle School Road outside of New Bern.

Troopers said Edwards failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and pulled her Kia passenger vehicle out in front of the oncoming school bus.

Her car was then hit by the bus.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her passenger, Marion Monette, 72, of New Bern was airlifted to Vidant Medical Center. 

Her condition is unknown at this time.

No children on the bus were injured, and they were sent home on another bus.

No charges will be filed, according to the Highway Patrol.
