Three people were arrested in connection with breaking and entering incidents in Robeson County.
On Sunday around 9:43 a.m., the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 5300 block of Old Whiteville Road in the Lumberton area in reference to a breaking and entering of a residence, according to a press release from the RCSO. During an investigation, a description of a vehicle “seen in the area at the time of the incident was provided to the responding officer.”
With help from the Lumberton Police Department, the vehicle was located around 6 p.m. on McPhail Rd. in Lumberton, says the release. The investigation led to the arrests of 39-year-old Benny Smith, 50-year-old Barry Allen Tew, and 36-year-old Jerry Wayne Berry, all of Lumberton.
Each is charged with “one count of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony conspiracy, one count of larceny after breaking and entering, and one count of breaking and entering with the intent to commit a larceny.” Berry is also charged with “possession of burglary tools.”
The charges “are in relation to two breaking and entering incidents,” the release also says.
The first incident happened at a residence located in the 5300 block of Old Whiteville Road in Lumberton. During this incident, no property was reported stolen.
The second incident happened in the 2500 block of Seventh Str. Rd. in Lumberton. During this incident, a 42-inch flat screen television, valued around $250, was reported stolen.
All three were placed in the Robeson County Detention Center. Tew and Smith received $40,000 secured bonds and Berry received a $60,000 secured bond.
