WHITEVILLE, NC (WBTW) – An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the homicide of a man who was reported missing from Robeson County, according to a press release from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
The press release on Monday stated William Dewayne Simmons of Columbus County was arrested on Thursday, October 11. The arrest happened at the Sun Do gas station on Old Boardman Rd. in Boardman – the same location where Carlos Alfonso Jr. had been last seen on September 13. Simmons is now charged with the homicide of Alfonso.
After being last seen at the gas station, 21-year-old Alfonso was reported missing from his home in Orrum in Robeson County. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office never reported the missing person case to WBTW. Alfonso’s body was found on Joe Brown Highway north of Chadbourn on September 16.
No further details were released about Simmons’s alleged connection to the death of Alfonso. Simmons has a listed address on Mangum Road between Boardman and Evergreen.
