CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – The suspect in the abduction of 4-year-old Heidi Todd from her Johns Island home is facing multiple charges by Charleston police.
Thomas Lawton Evans, 37, is charged with attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct first degree, armed robbery, burglary first degree and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Evans is being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he is scheduled to have a bond hearing Wednesday.
Evans is accused of attacking the girl’s mother on Feb. 13 as she returned to her Johns Island home with three of her children. He then reportedly abducted Heidi and left the others behind.
Heidi was located the next day in Alabama. Evans was arrested several hours later driving a stolen car in Mississippi.
The investigation is ongoing.
